The Charity
We chose The Woman's Fund because we thought it very fitting
with the tournament and also that one of our players has a close
connection to the founders of the Charity, this way it would be
something close to us as well as the public.
In April 2010, The Community Foundation for Ireland launched
Ireland's first ever Women's Fund. The Fund - established by women
for women - is solely dedicated to enabling women to build a fund
to support woman's causes and charitable initiatives across the
country.
The Fund will tackle the problems facing women and girls in
Ireland today by raising funds, promoting women's organisations and
raising awareness of the challenges facing women. The Fund is
dedicated to supporting a number of varying women's issues by
giving small grants to enable positive change at the grassroots and
tackle women's inequality at its source. Current priorities of the
grants are aimed at preventing violence against women and also
empowering woman to take leadership roles in communities.

Here in Ireland:
- 1 in 5 women experience domestic violence in their
lifetimes
- 85% of lone parents are female
- 84% of cases reported to the Rape Crisis Centre are female
- Only 14% of TD's in Dail Eireann are female (EU average is
24%).
